About Operation Friendship

For an introduction of Operation Friendship, download our POWERPOINT PRESENTATION.

Friends

The type of people who host international friendship groups are volunteers from every walk of life who are interested in making personal friendships with international students and offering them the hospitality of their homes and giving opportunities to see the surrounding  countryside. The volunteers are enlisted through local churches and are committed Christians who have values that most students appreciate.

Activities

Friendship groups organise a variety of interesting recreational and social activities that bring international friends together with our volunteers. It’s an ideal way to meet New Zealand families and experience Kiwi home life. Gatherings can include trips to fun locations, hiking, camping, swimming, skiing or snowboarding, movie nights, games nights, Bible studies and discussions, and many other activities. Getting together almost always involves eating together!

Cost

Friendship groups are organised for free. All you need to pay are your own expenses to help cover the costs of trips and sightseeing activities. Sometimes events include “bring and share” food where you may be asked to bring a food item to add to the meal for everyone to enjoy (Kiwis also calls this “pot luck” or “bring a plate”).
